North Turkana Accommodation

Expedition camping only

North Turkana National Reserve offers no established accommodation requiring completely self-sufficient mobile camping expeditions with all equipment, supplies, and support transported in for wilderness stays.

Mobile Expedition Camping

Specialized Mobile Camps: Expert operators establish temporary camps with expedition tents, camp furniture, bush facilities, cooking equipment. Rates: $300-$600+ per person per night including meals, activities, staff, security. Complete self-sufficiency required. Professional camp staff, guides, drivers essential.

Desert camping requires specialized knowledge—setting up in extreme heat, water conservation, waste management, wildlife safety (crocodiles near lake). Camps typically positioned for lake views, access to interesting areas. Armed security recommended given remoteness.

Basic Self-Sufficient Camping

Experienced adventurers with complete camping equipment, 4×4 vehicles, expedition experience can camp independently. Bring everything—tents, water (abundant supplies), food (week+), cooking gear, first aid, communications. No facilities anywhere. Suitable only for highly experienced expedition travelers with desert camping expertise.

Lodwar Base (6-8 hours away)

Lodwar town offers basic accommodation: guesthouses ($30-$80), small hotels ($50-$120). Very basic amenities. Used as starting point for Turkana expeditions but too distant for day trips to North Turkana. Most visitors camp within or near reserve rather than commuting.
