Amboseli Sopa Lodge

Set just outside the popular Amboseli National Park, the Amboseli Sopa Lodge stands on 200 acres of savanna and bush highlighted by majestic Mount Kilimanjaro. The lodge’s lobby is bright and airy, an indoor garden painting a welcoming picture for guests, while the decor and art seen throughout the lodge depicts true Maasai culture. A bridge over a tranquil fishpond connects to a large thatched roof restaurant named after Mt Kilimanjaro’s Kibo Peak, with the outdoor Mawanzi terrace and bar the perfect spot to enjoy a meal or drink beneath the shade of the Acacia tree.

The lodge has a large swimming pool with a spacious surrounding relaxing area set among rocks and garden, with a pool bar to quench thirsty guests. What better way to end the day than on top of a boulder commanding incredible views, the Hemingway Bar the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner. Other facilities at Amboseli Sopa Lodge include accommodation comprising 83 rooms plus a colorful Maasai handicraft market as well as a gift and souvenir shop.

Location

Amboseli Sopa Lodge is located just outside the Amboseli National Park, an approximate four to five hour drive from Nairobi. For guests wishing to fly into the Park, the flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport will take 30 minutes followed by a one hour road transfer to the lodge.

Rooms / Tents

The 83 rooms at Amboseli Sopa Lodge include six interleading rooms, two wheelchair accessible rooms plus a honeymoon suite. Bedding configurations include twin-bedded, queen sized beds or double rooms comprising either a queen or king bed. The rooms are spacious and set among lush gardens, decorated in traditional Maasai colors and designs and include a private veranda. There is a mosquito net over the beds and a desk and chair in the room. Each room has an en-suite bathroom that includes a shower, toilet and vanity.

Game Viewing / Activities

The savannah-rich plains of the Amboseli National Park serve as the playground for large herds of elephants, wallowing buffalo and other Big Five favorites such as leopard and lion. Forested areas surround lakes and rivers with the option to see hippos at play or catch a glimpse of the prolific birdlife that exists, during your morning or afternoon game drive.

The lodge also offers the opportunity for guests to enjoy a full day in the Park with lunch enjoyed in a tented area set close to the Amboseli Park gate. A highlight of any game experience in Amboseli is to spend time on Observation Hill which commands spectacular views across the entire Park.
