Zebra Plains Mara Camp

Experience the friendly Masai culture and warm service from the moment you enter Zebra Plains Mara Camp. Owned and managed by a qualified Kenyan guide, authenticity and comfort combine to offer guests a memorable stay.

Spacious is a word that perfectly describes the camp, with public areas comprising up to five bars ranging from a well-stocked bar lounge to a TV lounge and outdoor relaxing spaces with daybeds and chair swings. Color is splashed throughout the dining areas in vibrant tablecloths and in the luxury tents with blues and reds scattered on beds and chairs.

Experienced chefs impress with delicious English breakfasts and plated 3-course lunches and dinners. At night, two crackling bonfires are lit, creating a cozy space for guests to share tales of their safari. The five luxury tents are designed with comfort and openness in mind, a couple created for honeymooners and others suited to families or a small group of adults traveling together.

Location

A 25-minute flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the Olkiombo airstrip, just north of the Talek River, brings you into the famous Masai Mara National Park and a short distance to Zebra Plains Mara Camp.

Located just outside the Olare Orok Conservancy, the camp is ideally situated for thrilling safaris on the surrounding open plains of the Masai Mara. If arriving by safari vehicle, the drive is around six hours from Nairobi.

From the moment you arrive, be on the lookout for herds of zebra—hence the camp’s name—as well as giraffe, wildebeest, hyena, and hippos at nearby water spots.

Rooms / Tents

The 18 luxury tents are located a short distance from the main area, decorated in rich colors and complete with a large verandah and comfortable sitting area.

En-suite bathrooms include a shower with hot, running water and a neat basin, while the bedroom’s reading table invites you to record your sightings and thoughts of the day. Beds are covered with mosquito nets, adding to the tranquil ambiance.

Two rooms are dedicated to guests celebrating a special occasion, perfect for honeymooners. Families or 4 adults traveling together can enjoy the standard luxury family tent with connecting rooms and separate amenities.

The camp also features two large deluxe tented family villas comprising two rooms connected by a central living area—ideal for families with teenagers or six adults traveling together. Each unit has separate entrances and verandahs for added privacy.

Game Viewing / Activities

Adventure In The Wild Safaris uses 4×4 closed vehicles with open roofs and a maximum of six guests, ensuring everyone has a window seat and the opportunity to stand and observe wildlife. Extremely knowledgeable and experienced guides take you out onto the plains to witness herds of zebra, giraffe, and hippos, with prolific birdlife soaring around you.

Early morning and late afternoon game drives are led by professional guides with close to a decade of experience. Switch out your breakfast spot for a picnic next to the water’s edge and enjoy nature’s sounds. Safari walks are also available for those wanting to connect closely with the land and wildlife—always under expert guidance and strict adherence to safety rules.
