Base Camp Masai Mara
Base Camp in the Masai Mara invites guests to immerse themselves into Masai culture as they settle into a safari setting that offers both exceptional wildlife experiences and a chance to experience the rich cultural history of the region and its people.
The camp is set up amidst trees and surrounding bush along the Talek River, offering eco-friendly, luxury tented accommodation. Dining takes place in a spacious communal tent set up right next to the Talek River offering amazing views over the grassy plains. There is the option for a private dining experience on the camp’s viewing deck, giving guests the chance to sit in near silence, the sound of the bush and flowing waters accompanying their meal.
Located next to Base Camp is the Enjoolata Awareness Centre where Masai are on hand to share with and educate visitors on local culture and the history of the region. Guests can also experience nearby community initiatives such as the Masai Beading Centre where local talent is applauded and promoted. Talek town is a short walk from the Camp and here guests can enjoy a cultural visit, led by a local guide.
Location
Located along the seasonal Talek River, a tributary of the Mara River, offering a premium spot for animal viewing and for the soothing sounds of the waters in front of the camp. A five-hour drive or a 45-minute flight from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport into Olseki or Olkiombo airstrips, Base Camp is situated on prime game viewing land and across the river from the famous Masai Mara. Each luxury tent faces the Talek River and is set with a bushy perimeter, immersing guests into a wildlife haven and offering views over the savannah.

Game Viewing / Activities
One of the most popular activities at Base Camp is bird watching safaris, due to the surrounding flora and fauna flourishing notably due to the planting of trees, an answer to solving the deforestation issue. A plethora of birdlife, around 300 species recorded, can be seen and heard bringing a vibrance to the bush, whether witnessed by safari vehicle or on foot.
Discover the magnificence of the savannah as lazy lions rest beside grassy outcrops or marvel at the simplicity of wildebeest wandering aimlessly about the plains. Enjoy the openness of your 4×4 vehicle stopping to stretch your legs as the sun rises and capture dramatic sunsets as you sip on sundowners, your afternoon game drive setting with the sun.
Animal sightings are excellent in this region and your qualified guides will know where to drive in the moment, depending on what excitement has been unfolding in the bush that day.
