Kirurumu Serengeti South Camp
LOCATION: Depending on the season!
We don’t stay in one place all the time. Because the movement is unpredictable, we think that our seasonality and the fact that our camps may move around within a general area is the best way to plan our strategy. Most of the time, we stay away from areas with a lot of people. Instead, we use our extensive knowledge and years of experience to find places that are less crowded but still great for wildlife.
In June, the camp changes to the Moru Kopjes, which are stunningly beautiful. Because there is always water in Moru, it is the only place where the Serengeti Rhino Project can take place. The area also has a lot of lions, with numbers similar to those in Seronera, but it is much less crowded and more private. There is a lot of wildlife in the area, which is why there are so many lions. The migration might or might not come through the area in June. It’s hard to say ahead of time what the pattern will be because it depends on the weather and how much water the big herds can get.
The camp goes to the Ndutu area of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area at the end of December and stays there until the end of March. The Ndutu 2 campsite area gives you access to the Serengeti short grass fields during the Great Migration. During this time, the wildebeests are carving their way through the grass from mid-February to early March. The lakes have water that animals from the plains around them need to come in. This makes for great wildlife watching. Along with the movement, the area is also great for lions, cheetahs, and other great plains animals.
