Aberdare National Park
This park is unique among Kenya’s wildlife reserves with its rainforests, waterfalls, green mountainous terrain, and rugged moorlands. Here you’ll find amongst the bamboo groves and high alpine foliage buffalo, antelope, elephants, baboons, and monkeys. The park also hosts a large herd of black rhino and some of the big cats like lion and the elusive black leopard.
Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary
At Ol Pejeta not only will you be tracking the Big Five but also one of the largest populations of black rhinos in East Africa. The park also hosts the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary – home to rescued and orphaned chimps. This is the only place in Kenya where you can view these intelligent and lively creatures.

3 Day Aberdare & Ol Pejeta Game Sanctuary Tour Itinerary
Organized by Adventure In The Wild Safaris
Day 1: Nairobi – Aberdare National Park (160 km – Approx. 3 hours)
Meal plan: Lunch, Dinner
08:00 hrs. – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or Nairobi airport.
We’ll head out in a 4×4 Jeep towards the lush Aberdare National Park. Upon arrival, you will check into your accommodation, nestled in the forested slopes. Later, enjoy game viewing opportunities from your tree hotel or lodge balconies, watching elephants, buffalos, and other wildlife visit the waterholes below.
Day 2: Aberdare – Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary (160 km – Approx. 3 hours)
After breakfast, we’ll exit Aberdare Park and head north with views of Mt. Kenya, the country’s highest peak.
As we journey to Ol Pejeta, we’ll travel through the farmland of central Kenya, passing local homesteads. There are six resident prides of lions at Ol Pejeta, and many guests are lucky to spot them. The park also hosts cheetah, leopards, and uniquely, packs of African wild dogs.
You’ll also encounter giraffe, impala, gazelle, zebra, hippo, monkey, and baboon throughout the sanctuary. Of special note, Ol Pejeta harbors a large population of black rhinos in a specially protected game corridor.
Perhaps one of the most unique facilities in East Africa is the park’s Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Here you’ll view rescued chimps being nourished back to health and living freely in their natural habitat. It’s the only place in Kenya where you can see and enjoy these lively creatures.
Day 3: Ol Pejeta – Nairobi (220 km – Approx. 4 hours)
The early morning light is beautiful at Ol Pejeta, and we’ll take advantage of the time and the moment with a game drive, enjoying the stirring wildlife.
Afterward, we’ll enjoy breakfast at the lodge before beginning our drive back to Nairobi, arriving in the afternoon.
