Samburu National Reserve is somewhat off the beaten path, providing a wild game park with fewer tourists. You’ll see unique creatures such as Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk, and the Somali Ostrich. Buffalo Springs features volcanic landscapes, forests, and marshes. Shaba National Reserve offers greener landscapes with forests, woodlands, and the iconic Shaba Hill Volcano. These three parks are a visual feast of terrain and wildlife. We can personalize your safari based on your preferences.

Your Guide

For your 3-day Samburu, Shaba, Buffalo Springs journey, you’ll be guided, hosted, and looked after by your own experienced driver/guide. Transportation between parks and game viewing will be in a private 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep, the safari standard with higher seating and rugged all-wheel drive.

Samburu Game Reserve 3 Day Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu

Distance: 320 km, Approx. 5 hrs

Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

07:30 hrs – Your driver/guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel, residence, or Nairobi airport. Then we’ll head out in our 4 x 4 Jeep over Kenya’s central highlands enjoying views of small, local coffee, tea, sisal, and pineapple farms. We’ll also pass the imposing form of Mt. Kenya, the pride of our country and its tallest peak.

Day 2: Samburu

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We’ll meet the new day with a game drive to look for lion, leopard, cheetah, and other wildlife appearing in the dawning light. Following the path of the Ewaso Ngiro River, we’ll watch for elephant, buffalo, and entertaining wildlife like dik-dik, warthog, and olive baboon.

Samburu is also one of the two regions where conservationist Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness, later made famous in the book and movie Born Free. Here too, are the Samburu people, closely related to the Maasai, an indigenous pastoral group who have inhabited this region for generations.

As always on our safaris, you can be as active as you wish or relax at your safari accommodation.

Day 3: Samburu – Nairobi

Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch

Our final morning in the park will give us opportunities to add more wildlife sightings to our checklist. Samburu hosts over 350 species of birdlife including kingfisher, vulture, guinea fowl, egret, falcon, and eagle. There will be plenty to watch on land, in the springs, and overhead.

We’ll enjoy another game drive as we exit the park on our journey back to Nairobi. Heading back to the city, we’ll break up the drive with a stop for lunch.
