With a main welcoming area set under a tall thatched roof, Essque Zalu blends classic African style with a coastal escape. There is a jetty that leads out into the ocean and a Maasai Village located on the property. Dining options are varied with a choice of restaurants and bars situated in various spots around the resort. The Market Kitchen in the main building serves up cosmopolitan cuisine while the Jetty Restaurant and Bar offers delicious seafood and more, surrounded by the Indian Ocean. There is the option of in-room dining and destination dining where a romantic dinner will be set up for you on the beach or in the forest.
Guests can quench their thirst at the Baobab bar or the pool bar, and cool down in the refreshing swimming pool located on the beachfront in the center of the property. There is a Spa and a gym for those looking to unwind or work out, as well as a kids club for younger guests. Accommodation is set among forests with beach access close by, and there is a small boutique where guests can purchase a variety of clothing and gifts.
Location
Essque Zalu is located at the very northern corner of Nungwi Beach on Zanzibar Island. It is located approximately one hour away by car from Zanzibar Airport. Guests can choose to take a 20-minute flight to Zanzibar from Dar es Salaam or a ferry that will take two hours, or fly into Zanzibar from an international destination or off a regional flight.
Rooms / Tents
There are 40 Suites and eight Residences set out among forest and sand at Essque Zalu, boasting ocean or tropical garden views. The Garden Suites are situated in the lush gardens, a luxurious and quiet escape, the pitched Makuti roof adding a more spacious feel. The decor has been created from local materials and depicts local artwork with neutral colors and tones set throughout the Suites. There is a television, air-conditioning, a mini-bar, tea and coffee-making facilities, and a safety deposit box. Bedding can be configured as Queen or Twin and there are mosquito nets over the beds. The Garden Suites are situated on the ground floor with a terrace while the Superior Suites are located on the second floor with a large balcony. The bathrooms are en-suite with a double vanity, toilet, and shower, plus luxurious bathroom amenities available.
The Seaview Suites are set up for pure privacy, a wonderfully romantic option, however there is space for small families to stay. There is a relaxing balcony and views over the sea, the amenities the same as in the other suites. The Seafront Suites are the most sought-after with an ideal oceanfront location. The Residences are magnificent, boasting either three or four bedrooms. They are large with options to stay in a Garden Residence, Ocean Residence, or Seafront Residence. The amenities are the same as offered in the Suites, however these Residence Villas include a few extras such as a dining room, a dedicated chef, housekeeping, a comfortable lounge, and a plunge pool. They can accommodate up to 10 guests.

Game Viewing / Activities
Guests can enjoy a myriad of water activities from scuba diving to snorkeling and kitesurfing, or stay on land and visit the local Maasai Village on the property or enjoy walks through the tranquil gardens. Entering the ocean from the impressive jetty may be something a little different, while guests can enjoy working out at the resort’s gym or relax in the spa. Excursions to explore the Spice Island or pay a visit to Stonetown can be arranged.
