Z Hotel Zanzibar

Located steps away from sinking your toes into the white sandy beach of Nungwi, the Z Hotel is one of the original boutique hotels opened on the island. The design of the building housing the accommodation and the restaurant and bar area just across the way, are contemporary in design and unique in decor. Funky lighting and classic setup of dining areas and bars makes this hotel a favorite among visitors to the area. There are a couple of dining options: Sexy Fish, a classy restaurant offering exceptional cuisine, while Cinnamon & Rooftops serves more casual dining and an array of beverages. The Sky Bar has live music adding to the holiday vibe, and guests can choose to enjoy a drink pool-side during the day.

The Jungle Gym is a great place for guests to work out or they can choose to work out in the open air with a yoga session each morning. There is a glistening swimming pool where swimmers and bathers can cool down while staring out over the beach and Indian Ocean. Rooms look out over the swimming pool and ocean, and guests can simply walk to the left and down the alleyways of the local village. Activities include a dhow sunset outing, horse riding on the beach, and trips to Mnemba Island.

Location

The Z Hotel is located on popular Nungwi Beach on the northern tip of Zanzibar Island. Flights into Zanzibar Airport from Dar es Salaam take 20 minutes, with a two-hour ferry ride. The transfer to the Z Hotel will take approximately 90 minutes.

The elegantly-designed room types at the Z Hotel include Garden, Sea View, and Roof-Top Suites, as well as Oceanfront Cottages, the latter with a large private deck overlooking the sea. All rooms are decorated with dark wooden furniture; all beds are four-poster and covered with mosquito netting. There is a writing desk and chair in each room, a ceiling fan, and quirky African-inspired colorful wallpaper. The bathrooms are all en-suite with a vanity, toilet, shower, and bathroom amenities.

Game Viewing / Activities

Relaxing by the pool or on the beach is the name of the game when staying at the Z Hotel, yet an array of activities are on offer to guests. Horse riding on the beach, enjoying a scuba dive with expert guides, or taking a snorkeling trip out to Mnemba Atoll. Visit the Turtle Sanctuary and spend time walking through the local village, where an array of souvenir stores and restaurants await discovery.
