Ashnil Samburu Camp

Set against the scenic Ololokwe mountain backdrop, the Ashnil Samburu Camp is located along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the Buffalo Springs Game Reserve. Luxury tents are scattered along the river, offering incredible peace and views that are hard to beat. The restaurant serves cuisine that is a combination of international, local and Asian blends, served with pleasant views accompanying each meal. The lounge bar is decorated in classic African colors and design and drinks are served with views over the surrounding savannah.

Guests can laze on sun lounges laid out around the swimming pool, set in a tranquil garden or enjoy a nature walk with a qualified guide or a cultural village visit, embracing the life and charm of local Samburu folk. Location

The drive from Nairobi takes between five and six hours as you head north out of the city. From the town of Isiolo, the “Ngare Mara” gate into the Reserve is around nine miles with the camp’s location indicated on clear signboards. Guests who wish to fly from Nairobi’s Wilson airport will be at the camp in just over an hour after landing at Isiolo Airport.

Rooms / Tents

Ashnil Samburu Camp comprises 30 luxury tents that can be configured into either Deluxe Double, Deluxe Twin or Deluxe Triple rooms. The tents are spacious, elegantly decorated incorporating African colors of oranges, greens, beiges and browns. The wooden floors are met by canvas walls and roof, the shape of each tent circular in design. The tents are en-suite with a shower, toilet and sink plus amenities. A small sitting area is present with mosquito nets over the beds, an in-room safe and fan. There is a small deck off each tent which overlooks the Ewaso Nyiro River, where guests can rest in between safari experiences.

Game Viewing / Activities

Bush walks and bird watching outings in the Buffalo Springs Reserve are popular with guests staying at Ashnil Samburu Camp. Game Drives are possible in the Reserve too, with sightings of Grevy’s Zebra and Articulated Giraffe always exciting to see. Game Drives can be done in nearby Samburu National Park, where options to see lion, cheetah and herds of elephant are a highlight. Spend time with qualified guides exploring the landscape of both reserves and embracing close encounters with predators and prey on morning and afternoon safari drives.
