Samburu Game Lodge

Noted to be one of the first game lodges to be established in the Samburu Game Reserve, the Samburu Game Lodge has been welcoming and serving guests since 1962. It offers a wonderful combination of classic African safari feel combined with subtle luxury, set on grounds that often see anything from antelope to elephant roaming along the river’s edge. Guests can sit in the comfortable open lounge or sip a drink at the Crocodile Bar, with wonderful views over the river on offer. Perhaps step up into the Vulture Bar which is set in a tree commanding endless views over the Reserve.

The main area of the Lodge is impressive with tall wooden-beamed ceilings in the reception and dining areas. Guests can enjoy time lazing by the large, glistening swimming pool, its red umbrellas offering a splash of color to the surrounding greens and browns. There are also spa treatments on the menu or perhaps guests would like to spend some time browsing the souvenir shop. The property is large, offering 61 spacious thatched cottages.

Location

Samburu Game Lodge is located in the Samburu Game Reserve in central Kenya. The Lodge lies near the Ewaso Nyiro River and is around one hour’s transfer away from the Samburu Airstrip. Flights from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport will take approximately one hour with a drive from Nairobi taking between five and six hours.

Rooms / Tents

Samburu Game Lodge comprises 61 luxury and spacious thatched cottages all located along stone walkways in lush surroundings. They are all set on a raised platform, the private verandahs lightly furnished and offering a comfortable place to watch the wonders of the wilderness. Bedding can be set up as a King or Twin bed with a sofa and writing table available in each cottage.

The complement of rooms is a collection of standard rooms, river rooms and junior suites, all colorfully decorated and featuring classic African art and furniture. All rooms are en-suite and offer a shower, sink and toilet, with local bathroom amenities for guests to use during their stay.
