Tarangire and Ngorongoro
You won’t find many tourists at our first park, Tarangire, but you will find lots of elephants and big cats. The park is home to over 8,000 of the great tuskers and amazingly is home to its own migration of every type of grazer and predator, drawn to the park’s water source, the Tarangire River.
After our first night here, getting your safari legs, we’ll travel through time and space to a most special protected area, the Ngorongoro Crater. Virtually cut off from the rest of the continent, this magnificent volcanic caldera supports every sort of species – lions, leopards, rhinos, zebra, antelope, hippos, and pink flamingoes. A dense concentration of over 30,000 animals thrive in this bowl, cut into the earth millions of years ago and today the site of your exploration!
You Will Know the Serengeti
But the highlight of our safari comes next: Our visit to the great Serengeti will span over 4 days! This immersive discovery tour will bring you to a choice of the big park’s different regions – the plains, the Western corridor, Northern Serengeti, and Ndutu – each with its own special habitat, capable of supporting unique and special wildlife, like its over 3,000 lions.
During the different seasons, you’ll find literally millions of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles on the endless savannahs. While the marshlands are filled with hippos, monkeys, baboons, crocodiles, and infinite birdlife.
You will get to know the contours of the land and the animals of this world-famous reserve during your safari time here.
Experience the Safari Life
On our sixth and final day, we’ll take another game drive through the Serengeti, which will surely feel familiar by now. Then we’ll travel back to Arusha and the airport for your easy flight to Zanzibar. And from there, an Adventure In The Wild Safaris driver will bring you safely back to your hotel.

6-Day Safari Itinerary
Day 1
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
Time to safari! We will pick you up from your hotel or resort for the transfer to Abeid Karume International Airport. Your flight departs at 8:00 am and will have you landing at Arusha at about 9:15 am.
Day 2
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Tarangire National Park – Ngorongoro Crater (154 km. Approx. 3 ½ hrs.)
We will wake to the sounds of the early birds welcoming our first safari morning. After our breakfast and perhaps another drive around the park we will point our safari vehicle to the Ngorongoro Crater area.
Arriving at the rim of the great Crater, let’s gaze out at the giant depression left in the earth after the explosion and collapse of an ancient volcano millions of years ago.
Now we’ll carefully descend the caldera’s steep walls (2,000 ft) down to a beautifully lush and concentrated world of birds and wildlife. We’ll be exploring for rhinos, buffalos, zebra, hippos, crocodiles, flamingoes, plus lions, and leopards.
We can enjoy our lunch at Lake Magadi, home to rich birdlife, hippos, and bright, pink flamingoes.
Then, a final treat at the day’s end. We’ll head back up the crater walls to arrive at the rim in time for a striking sunset. The perfect finale to a perfect day.
Day 3
Ngorongoro Crater – Serengeti National Park (121 km. Approx. 3 hrs.)
Ready for the Serengeti? We’ll head out early, perhaps catching a glorious sunrise at the crater’s rim, and then turn toward the great park.
However, on the way there, we will make a fascinating detour at Olduvai Gorge, a world-renowned anthropological site where thousands of fossilized human remains and tools have been discovered. We’ll view the sediment beds that have offered up this detailed record of humankind’s physical and cultural evolution.
Then, we’re off to epic Serengeti Park, taking in its vast rolling savannahs that hold uncountable volumes of big cats, elephants, and grazers of every sort.
We’ll enjoy the first of many game drives over these broad plains as your introduction to the park. For the next several days this will be your home.
Day 4
Serengeti is an immense park but not to worry, you’ll have plenty of time to explore its plains, corridors, woodlands, hills, and forests.
Just speak with your driver/guide as to which areas you’d like to explore first. He will also have lots of suggestions.
The numbers of wildlife here are amazing – 4,000 hyenas, 5,000 elephants, over 3,000 lions, 53,000 buffalo… and during the migration season, up to 2 million wildebeests, zebras, and gazelles.
Day 5
Second Full Day at Serengeti
We’ll be up early – don’t want to miss a sighting at this dense and versatile park filled not just with the big game but also wild dog, honey badger, warthog, giraffe, eland, topi, crocodile, and hippo.
If you should be here from December through March, plan to visit the Ndutu area in the park’s southern reaches to witness the miracle of up to 8,000 wildebeest newborns dropping into these lush fields every day.
Day 6
Serengeti – Arusha
Arusha – Zanzibar
1 ¼ Hour Flight
Let’s get up early and enjoy one final game drive through the park before turning toward Arusha. You are certain to spot some of the big game like elephants, buffalo, and rhino. And perhaps a glimpse at a lion or two returning from the evening’s hunt.
Then we’ll head back to the airstrip for our 11:30 am lift-off. We’ll have you back on Zanzibar’s glorious coast at around 14:15 hrs. (2:15 pm).
