Location

The Sands at Chale Island is located at Diani Beach, a 90-minute drive from Mombasa’s Moi International Airport. Ukunda’s airport is a 30-minute trip from the resort.

There are a variety of accommodation options available at Sands at Chale Island, options ranging from exquisite rooms to beach bandas and suites that offer breathtaking views over the ocean and the Shimba Hills in the distance. Each room is designed with local materials and inspired by Swahili designs. Colors of beige, teals, and browns complement the natural surroundings and elegant comfort is a key focus of each accommodation.

There are 29 Ocean View Bandas that include a private verandah or balcony with a sunbed and are either standard, deluxe, or rooftop. They are all en-suite offering a shower, basin toilet, and local bathroom amenities.

The Two Overwater Suites stand above the water balancing on wooden pillars, the verandah offering outstanding views over the ocean. There is a separate sitting area and the en-suite bathrooms include a large shower and bathroom amenities. The ultimate in an intimate and private escape, the ‘Suite on the Rock’ is set on a mini island, accessed by a small stone bridge. A double-story building that comprises a bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor with a curved stairway that leads up to the lounge and verandah. Stunning views are a guarantee. Air-conditioning and WiFi can be found in each accommodation.

Game Viewing / Activities

Many great choices of activities to keep you energized, from snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, or stand-up boarding, to deep-sea fishing. There are excursions to the Mangroves and guests can pay a visit to the Marine Centre. Guests can visit the Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest or the Shimba Hills National Park located around two hours away from Sands at Chale Island.

There is a wonderful complement of wildlife and a stroll around this paradise will reveal the Green Turtles which use this island to lay their eggs and the largest mammal — the Whale Shark! The Colobus Monkey has two troops that live on the island amongst the abundance of birdlife.
