Tsavo East National Park

Come to Kenya’s largest animal reserve, Tsavo East National Park, home to the famous Tsavo lions and dust‑red elephants. The lions are the stuff of ferocious legend, and the elephants love to roll in the park’s famous red‑dust soil, leaving them with rose‑colored dusty coats. Aruba Dam, on the north bank of the seasonal Voi River, attracts thousands of animals and is an excellent game-viewing destination.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli presents a different atmosphere, framed by world‑famous Mount Kilimanjaro. This smaller park’s light foliage makes game spotting easier — and the game is plentiful. Expect many of the Big Five plus smaller species like hyena, fox, jackal, and monkey. Amboseli is renowned as one of the best spots in Africa to view free‑ranging elephants, creating picture‑postcard views with Kilimanjaro as the backdrop.

3 Days Tsavo East & Amboseli Tour Itinerary

Operated by Adventure In The Wild Safaris

Day 1 — Kenya Coast – Tsavo East

Distance: 120 km  |  Approx. 3 hrs

Your driver/guide will pick you up early from your Kenya coast beach resort or hotel in a 4×4 Jeep for your safari journey. We’ll head out on the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway, also known as the Early Explorer’s route to Tsavo East National Park.

Day 2 — Tsavo East – Amboseli

Distance: 300 km  |  Approx. 5–6 hrs

Now that we’re on safari, let’s make the most of our adventure and get up with the birds to enjoy a glorious African sunrise. This is a special time when the night burns off and wildlife begins to stir. We’ll start with an early morning game drive looking for elephant, zebra, eland, impala and whatever else we may encounter.

Later, we’ll head out for Amboseli Park, with more game viewing possible along the way. As you travel toward Amboseli, look for the signature peak of Mount Kilimanjaro as your beacon to the park. Amboseli lies at the foot of Africa’s tallest mountain, and the herds of elephants are so plentiful here that sightings are practically guaranteed. Wildlife spotting in Amboseli is diverse and plentiful.

While at the reserve, if you wish you can visit a nearby Maasai village to meet the locals, learn about their culture and purchase handicrafts—ask your guide to arrange this optional experience.

Toward evening the cloud cover that sometimes obscures Kilimanjaro’s snowy summit may burn off, revealing one of Africa’s most beautiful sights.

Day 3 — Amboseli – Nairobi

Distance: 250 km  |  Approx. 3 hrs

We will enjoy another early morning game drive to catch the awakening wonders of Amboseli, followed by a hearty safari breakfast. Then we’ll take a mid‑morning drive in search of more large and small animals. We may visit Observation Hill—an ideal spot to get great vistas of the park and see more wildlife, especially the elephants.

Finally, we’ll bid farewell to the plains of Amboseli and the towering presence of Kilimanjaro as we head on to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.
