5 Parks – Kenya’s Most Popular Included
Six days gives us plenty of time to really experience these very popular parks and all the wildlife wonders they hold. Amboseli and Masai Mara are known for their great numbers of large and small game offering lots of sightings in these two busy reserves. At Lake Naivasha and nearby parks, you’ll have the fun of sailing, walking, and bicycling safaris to get near the animals. This medium-length safari will have you exploring five wonderful destinations and all the natural wildlife that are waiting for your discovery.
Enjoy this amazing safari in a customized pop-up roof 4×4 Safari Jeep that includes: Portable fridge/Cooler Box, 4 Binoculars, long-range high-frequency radio, Sand bags, 4G/LTE broadband WIFI connectivity, Power Outlets AC 230V, First Aid Kit, Safari Guide Books – Baby Seats and Side Steps available on request… and above all, a professional multi-lingual safari guide who will ensure you have an unforgettable safari experience.
Two big reasons Amboseli National Park is Kenya’s second most popular park. The first – majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro dominates the horizon with its iconic snowy summit. The second is the busy population of elephants striding over the plains, often in view. You’ll enjoy discovering both in this postcard-like ‘Land of the Giants’.
Lake Naivasha and its surrounding parks are a varied world of birds, grazing game, and landscapes easily explored by jeep, boat, bicycle, and foot on some of the safaris we have planned for you. We’ll sail by hippos and take a guided walking tour at Crescent Island Game Sanctuary to see pelican, fish-eagle, wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle.
Ever pedal your way past grazing antelope and giraffe? We will enjoy a bike (or hiking) safari to nearby Hell’s Gate National Park. Amidst hot pools and other geothermal activity, this unique tour will take us through dramatic landscape, riding (or hiking) by buffalo and impala.
Now it’s time to set our sights on Kenya’s most popular park, the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve. This sprawling natural sanctuary is home to thousands of wild animals, over 90 species of mammals. All of Africa’s Big Five are here and the park is known for many sightings of lion, cheetah, as well as elephant, rhino, wildebeest, and zebra. When you have been to the Masai Mara, you have experienced a true African safari.

Day 1: Nairobi – Amboseli National Park (240 km – Approx. 4 hours)
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Amboseli National Park – full day
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Early morning is a very special time for a game drive. You’ll see the park come alive with the first stirrings of wildlife as the gentle early light plays upon the trees and plains.
We’ll have breakfast and then we’re off in our 4 x 4 on another drive looking for lion, cheetah and smaller game like hyena, fox, baboon, and monkey.
Amboseli enjoys a rich palette of birdlife as well – crake, egret, heron, falcon, and eagle have all been spotted at the park’s marshes and lakes.
We can also spot wildlife from the lookout vantage of Observation Hill where we may see buffalo, hippo, pelican and still more avian life below.
As evening approaches, look to Mt. Kilimanjaro as its snowy peak may appear through the breaking clouds.
Day 3: Amboseli – Lake Naivasha (340 km: Approx. 6 hrs)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We’ll be up early for a final game drive and bid farewell to our many elephant friends as we leave the park and journey through the Great Rift Valley. Seeing this exciting landscape with its dramatic escarpment will inspire us to stop and enjoy the views.
We should arrive at freshwater Lake Naivasha in time for lunch.
Then it’s time for a bicycle safari (or hiking if you prefer) to nearby Hell’s Gate National Park to explore its imposing cliffs and canyons. We’ll be biking (or hiking) past the park’s impala, eland, gazelle, and buffalo.
Day 4: Lake Naivasha – Masai Mara (240 km – Approx. 5 hours)
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Let’s rise for an early boat safari across Lake Naivasha, with the morning sun breaking upon the lake as we float by awakening hippos and exotic birds. This is Africa at its most serene.
We’ll follow that with a pleasant sojourn, a guided walking safari to Crescent Island Game Sanctuary – a jewel of a reserve that quietly shows off rich flocks of birds and grazing animals such as waterbuck, zebra, and gazelle.
And now we’re off to the Masai Mara National Reserve, the most popular park in the country. You’ll soon see why. Your first views of the park will be of its rolling, open spaces, delightful acacia trees and perhaps some early wildlife sightings.
The Mara is known to possess the greatest concentration of wildlife in the region. So, let’s start looking for those Big Five, plus giraffe, zebra, ostrich, and so many others.
Day 5: Full Day at the Masai Mara
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Your day will be filled with unlimited game drives and we’ll begin early in our 4 x 4, traversing these golden savannahs in search of the large game like lion, leopard, cheetah, and the smaller hyena and jackal.
Sightings are common in this park so you’re sure to be active and engaged throughout our drives.
If you’re here from July through October, you’ll witness a stunning influx of wildlife into the park during the Great Migration – the season when gazelle, wildebeest, and zebra flood into the park over the Mara River in a timeless cycle of birth, death and renewal.
We’ll take a picnic lunch by the Mara River where we may see hippo and also crocodile awaiting the influx of wildlife.
We have provided still more optional activities for you in the park. We can arrange for a visit to the local Maasai people, to see their village and learn about their culture and lifestyle. This would be a good opportunity to pick up some of their colourful beaded handiwork.
Ever safari in a hot air balloon? We offer a pre-dawn adventure, sailing over the park, watching the wildlife darting about the plains below. You’ll not soon forget this unique adventure. Your driver/guide will be happy to make all the arrangements.
Day 6: Masai Mara – Nairobi (265 km – Approx. 5 hrs)
Meal Plan: Breakfast
After a leisurely breakfast at your lodge/camp, your dedicated driver guide will assist you with the checkout process and proceed to Nairobi – Kenya’s colorful capital city.
On the way, your guide will point out the Longonot extinct volcano which is a strato volcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya. It is thought to have last erupted in the 1860s and its name is derived from the Maasai word Oloonong’ot, meaning “mountains of many spurs” or “steep ridges.”
You can opt to drive via Naivasha for lunch/excursions at an extra cost or drive straight to Nairobi and pass by Kiambethu farm for the tea farm tour inclusive of a three-course buffet lunch (at an extra cost), OR drive straight back to the capital and later transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your journey home.
