Tsavo East & Tsavo West – 3 Days Tour Itinerary
Day 1: MALINDI/WATAMU – TSAVO EAST
Distance: 120 kms – Approx. 3 hrs
We’ll be up early for the drive along the “explorers’ route”, the Malindi – Sala Gate Road, into the beautiful and wild Tsavo East National Park.
Meal Plan: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2: TSAVO EAST – TSAVO WEST
Distance: 60 kms – Approx. 1 hr
We’ll rise with the animals who are venturing onto the plains to greet the day. Enjoy the golden morning light as we explore the park and track big game like lions, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, and more.
After a well-deserved safari breakfast at your accommodation, we’ll head out again for a relaxed game drive, visiting known watering holes where wildlife congregates for a drink in the dry park landscape.
Later, we’ll journey to the nearby Tsavo West National Park, a short drive away. This park offers a greener, more varied terrain with hills, oases, and ancient baobab trees. The land here has more foliage and volcanic features, including dramatic lava flows.
All of Africa’s “Big Five” roam Tsavo West, and over the next two days, we’ll be tracking for elephant, lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo. We’ll also visit the park’s protected black rhino sanctuary where we may spot one of these shy, endangered giants.
Day 3: TSAVO WEST – RETURN TO COAST
We’ll take our cue from the wildlife and venture out on a pre-breakfast game drive, searching for the early risers – predators and grazers alike. There’s nothing like the glow of sunrise on the dewy savannah.
After breakfast, we’ll visit one of Tsavo West’s iconic attractions – Mzima Springs, a lush oasis fed by millions of gallons of clear water. Here, you’ll enjoy a guided walking safari by the verdant banks and see hippos, crocodiles, colorful fish, and migratory birds.
Don’t miss the unique underwater hippo viewing chamber, a glass-walled structure that allows you to watch the slow, balletic movements of these magnificent creatures beneath the surface.
Soon, it will be time to return to the Kenya coast. We’ll enjoy a relaxed drive back on the Mariakani–Malindi Road, reflecting on the adventures and wildlife we’ve encountered during this unforgettable safari.
