7 Days Fly & Drive Safari to Samburu, Ol Pejeta & Masai Mara

DAILY KENYA FLY-DRIVE SAFARI

A Full Week at Kenya’s Most Immersive Parks

7 DAYS, 6 NIGHTS: SAMBURU, OL PEJETA & MASAI MARA NATIONAL GAME RESERVE

Starts Nairobi / Ends Nairobi – We’ll pick you up from the International Airport, your hotel, or residence and transfer to nearby Wilson Airport for your morning flight.

Enjoy this amazing safari in a customized open-sided Adventure In The Wild Safaris 4×4 Safari Jeep that includes: Cooler Box, long-range high-frequency radio, Power Outlets AC 230V, First Aid Kit, and above all, a professional multi-lingual safari guide who will ensure you have an unforgettable safari experience.

We designed this tour to give you the most amount of game viewing time. You’ll fly to Samburu and the Masai Mara parks to reduce road driving and use that precious time for game drives in the parks.

Touch Down at Samburu

We’ll touch down at a nearby airstrip where your Adventure In The Wild Safaris driver/guide will meet you in a private open-sided 4×4 Land Cruiser Jeep. And you’re off on the first game drive of your week-long safari.

Samburu is a lightly touristed park but the wildlife is plentiful – this is home to over 1000 elephants, plus all the other “Big Five” – lion, leopard, rhino, and buffalo. The feeling here is unhurried and you’ll have the days to explore the vast park and perhaps visit a Samburu village, home to the indigenous people who are closely related to the Maasai.

Ol Pejeta – Saving the Chimps & Rhinos

It’s an easy drive to our special next stop – Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a private refuge that hosts all the big game but is also a sanctuary for endangered Chimpanzees and Rhinos.

You won’t find chimps anywhere else in Kenya but here at the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the large, natural enclosure is home to over 40 orphaned and injured chimps getting a second chance to live out healthy lives in this protected setting. We’ll also visit the rhino sanctuary, where some 140 black rhinos are free to roam but still protected from the poachers who have decimated their numbers.

Since Ol Pejeta is a private reserve, we can take part in activities not available in the national parks, like night game drives and bicycle safaris!

Wing Into the Mara

Ready to explore the king of Kenya’s parks? From Ol Pejeta, we’ll hop onto a scenic one-hour flight south to the great Masai Mara, touching down at a convenient airstrip.

Your new guide will meet you in an open-sided 4×4 Jeep for the quick trip into the reserve. The park’s rolling hills and golden savannahs will spread out before you as you enter the region’s most concentrated population of wildlife.

The Mara is famous for its prides of lions and other big cats like leopard, cheetah, and the smaller predators – jackals and hyenas.

And if you’re here during the months from July to October, you’ll also be treated to an explosive movement of wildlife called the Great Migration. Be ready to witness tens of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelle crossing into the park from the nearby Serengeti on their yearly cycle in search of food and water.

You can also view this spectacle from the air with our optional early morning hot air balloon safari. Rise with the sun to take in the park and the great trains of wildlife moving out to the horizon.

For our three days in the Mara, you’ll have plenty of time to soak up this beautiful park and the over 95 species of mammals and countless colorful birds filling the skies.

On our third day in the park, we’ll take a final game drive back to the airstrip for our easy flight to Nairobi.

7 Days Samburu, Ol Pejeta & Masai Mara Fly & Drive Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu (90 Minute Flight)

7:30 AM: Your Adventure In The Wild Safaris driver will come by your hotel, residence, or place of your choosing to bring you to nearby Wilson Airport. The flight takes off at 8:30 AM and should be just under 90 minutes.

En route, enjoy the fields and forests of Kenya coming to life—you might even get views of snow-capped Mt. Kenya.

You’ll touch down at an airstrip near the park where your driver/guide will welcome you with a private, open-sided 4×4 Land Cruiser Jeep. This heavy-duty vehicle will be your primary safari platform throughout your adventure.

Day 2: Full Day at Samburu

The day is yours to go on as many game drives as you please… or not. You can split your time between safari action and some R&R at your accommodation. The choice is yours—just tell your driver/guide what you’d like to do.

While on your game drives, you’ll be looking for elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, antelope, and many species. What you won’t see are great groups of other safari-goers—the park is a little off the usual safari routes. And that just leaves more park for yourself.

If you’d like, we’ll have time to visit nearby Shaba and Buffalo Springs reserves to enjoy their greener pastures and track the wildlife there.

Samburu is also known to harbor several endangered species like the Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx.

Day 3: Samburu – Ol Pejeta (3 Hour Drive)

We’ll be up early to catch this peaceful park at a particularly peaceful time. Then it’s breakfast and another game drive as we exit on our way to Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

The trip is a quick one and takes us to the cooler areas of Mt. Kenya and Laikipia.

Ol Pejeta is an incredibly diverse park—not only home to all the biggest game but also a sanctuary for rhinos and chimps.

At the Sweetwaters Sanctuary, orphaned and injured chimps are nursed back to health. It’s the only place in Kenya where you’ll see these playful, intelligent creatures in a natural setting.

We’ll also visit the black rhino enclosure, a large open space dedicated to protecting the largest population—over one hundred—of these endangered and shy creatures.

Day 4: Full Day at Ol Pejeta

Just like at Samburu, we’ve designed this safari for you to enjoy full days at the parks. Go on as many game drives as you wish or take time to relax at your accommodation.

There’s an active variety of wildlife at Ol Pejeta with the big cats and other large species, but we’ll also be looking for impala, giraffe, baboon, jackal, foxes, and hyena. Not often seen in other parks, we may spot endangered African wild dogs, so we’ll be tracking for them as well.

Because the park is private, there are several unique activities available here such as nighttime and bicycle safaris. Talk with your guide about taking part in these unusual adventures.

Day 5: Ol Pejeta – Masai Mara (1 Hour Flight)

By now you know the safari routine: up early to take in the new day and the emerging light upon the park and its wildlife. It’s also a great time for an easy game drive in a setting you’re getting familiar with.

We’ll then have breakfast and take a final drive through the park to the nearby airstrip where your flight to the Masai Mara awaits. At 10:30 AM, after goodbyes with your guide, you’ll take off on the scenic one-hour hop to the Mara lands.

Touching down near the park, you’ll meet your second Adventure In The Wild Safaris guide who will be waiting with an open-sided 4×4 Land Cruiser. Jump in and we’re off to perhaps the most famous wildlife park in the world.

The park will open up before you as a great region of sprawling savannahs and rolling hills, adorned with distinctive acacia trees and over 95 species of mammals.

Indeed, the Masai Mara boasts the densest concentration of wildlife in the region. Famous for its prides of lions, as well as cheetahs and night-prowling leopards, this great park impresses everyone who journeys over its deep and colorful horizons.

Over the next three days, we’ll go on unlimited game drives and discover elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope, and uncountable birds filling the skies and the trees.

Day 6: Full Day at Masai Mara

You’ll want to be up early to take in this great park and its immense displays of wild animals. Talk with your driver/guide about various areas of the park and what you can expect to see there.

You almost certainly should go down to the Mara River, site of the Great Migration from July through October. Here you’ll witness one of the most unbelievable displays of wildlife on the planet.

Hundreds, thousands… even tens of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelle pour into the park from the neighboring Serengeti on their yearly trek searching for sustenance in the form of food and water.

Waiting for this onslaught of grazers is a distinct coterie of predators—crocodiles awaiting in the Mara River and then throughout the reserve, entire collections of big cats waiting for their prey. This is the natural world where each species behaves according to its pre-ordained genetic code – predator and prey.

If you’d like to watch this amazing drama from above, take advantage of our optional early morning hot air balloon safari. You’ll float over the park and the Great Migration, witnessing the world come alive with vast fleets of wildebeest stretching out to the horizon. Simply breathtaking.

Another fun optional activity will add a cultural aspect to your time in the park. Visit a nearby Maasai village and get to meet these indigenous people close up. You’ll learn about their pastoral lifestyle, their culture and perhaps view their lively dance ceremonies.

Day 7: Masai Mara – Nairobi (1 Hour Flight)

It’s our final safari morning and we’ll celebrate with a game drive through the park. You’re experienced safari-goers now and probably have developed a sense as to where to look for the animals.

After breakfast, we’ll head to the airstrip – your one-hour flight back to Wilson Airport takes off at 11:15 AM. Bid your guide goodbye and get ready for the scenic flight, viewing the great park from the air.
