9 Days Fly & Drive Safari to Samburu, Ol Pejeta, Masai Mara & Amboseli

Our Most Complete Fly & Drive Safari

9 DAYS, 8 NIGHTS: SAMBURU, OL PEJETA, MASAI MARA, & AMBOSELI PARKS

Starts Nairobi/Ends Nairobi – We’ll pick you up from the International Airport, your hotel, or residence and transfer to nearby Wilson Airport for your morning flight.

Enjoy this amazing safari in a customized open-sided Adventure In The Wild Safaris 4×4 Safari Jeep that includes: Cooler Box, long-range high-frequency radio, Power Outlets AC 230V, First Aid Kit, and above all, a professional multi-lingual safari guide who will ensure you have an unforgettable safari experience.

Imagine – nine days, four parks, and four scenic flights to speedily bring you to the vast wildlife in Kenya’s magnificent parks. You’ll enjoy so much extra time exploring the savannahs rather than highway long-hauling to the reserves on this uniquely designed Africa safari.

From convenient Wilson Airport in Nairobi, we’ll fly north to Samburu National Park, home to a thousand elephants and other big game. Then it’s an easy drive to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a private refuge for rhinos and chimpanzees.

We’ll hop aboard our next flight to the grand Masai Mara National Reserve known for its numerous prides of lions and cheetahs. And from there, our third flight has us touch down at unique Amboseli National Park, near the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro to track all the big game.

Finally, we’ll hop aboard our fourth flight taking us back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi. Nine days of quality time at the finest parks in Kenya. You’ll visit each park for three days and truly get to know the land and the animals. This is how a safari should be.

From Nairobi to Samburu

Adventure In The Wild Safaris will pick you up from your hotel, residence, or the international airport for the quick ride to Wilson Airport. From there it’s just a 90-minute flight to the vast stretches of Samburu Park.

We’ll land at a nearby airstrip where your driver/guide will welcome you in a private open-sided 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. And we’ll begin our first game drive as we head to your Samburu accommodation to freshen up.

Samburu is big but not overly touristed so you’ll feel like you have the park to yourself… and all the “Big Five” wildlife that moves through this special reserve. We’ll be tracking for elephant, lion, rhino, buffalo, and the night-prowling leopard.

While here we might take a visit to a local Samburu village, whose indigenous people are closely related to the Maasai further south.

Ol Pejeta – A Private Reserve

We’ll next embark on the only road trip of our safari, a three-hour hop to Ol Pejeta Conservancy – home to all the big game but also a special refuge for black rhinos, one of the largest sanctuaries in East Africa. While here you must visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only one of its kind in Kenya. In fact, it’s the only place in the country where you can see chimps in a natural habitat.

The Sanctuary is home to over 40 orphaned and injured chimps who have been nurtured back to health to live freely in a natural environment.

Unlike the national parks, Ol Pejeta is a private reserve allowing us to engage in special activities like night game drives and even bicycle safaris.

Fly To The Masai Mara

Now we’ll hop aboard our second flight to travel south to Kenya’s most popular park, the great Masai Mara. Our next guide will meet us at the airstrip in an open-sided 4 x 4 Jeep and we’re off to the park.

The look here is expansive and ripe with expectation as we head over the green rolling hills of the park. We’ll settle in at our accommodation for lunch and then set out for the first of many game drives over and through these storied savannahs.

The Masai Mara is the richest ecosystem in the region, blessed with over 95 mammal species, including all the big cats. The many prides of lions and cheetahs, plus small predators like jackals and hyenas are supported by the vast numbers of grazers who populate the park throughout the year.

But should you be here from July through October, you’ll witness the spectacle of the Great Migration – an influx of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, gazelles, and more pouring into the park on their annual trek for food and survival. This intense movement of animals is simply astounding.

Busy Amboseli Park

Our third flight takes us to Amboseli National Park, not far from the base of Africa’s highest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro. After touching down we’ll meet our third guide of the safari and hop aboard a private 4 x 4 Jeep for the quick ride to the park.

Amboseli is a unique reserve in that it’s not large but still is home to all the big game. The population of free-ranging elephants here is so dense that you are guaranteed to see them during your stay. Not every park can make that promise.

And serving as a stunning backdrop for your photos stands the vast form of Mt. Kilimanjaro to the park’s southern flank.

After nine days of intense game drives and safari-going, we’ll hop aboard our final plane for the 45-minute flight back to Wilson Airport in Nairobi.

9 Days Samburu, Ol Pejeta, Masai Mara & Amboseli Fly & Drive Safari Itinerary

Day 1
Nairobi – Samburu (90 Minute Flight)

7:30 Your Adventure In The Wild Safaris driver will come by your hotel, residence, or the international airport for the quick drive to Wilson Airport. Your flight leaves at 8:30 and should put you in Samburu Park in just under 90 minutes.

From above, you’ll take in the fields and forest of Kenya – look for the snow-capped peak of Mt. Kenya.

Touching down at an airstrip close to the park, you’ll be met by your first driver/guide who will greet you with a private, open-sided 4 x 4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Hop aboard and let’s head to the park.

Day 2
Full-Day at Samburu

While on safari we like to get up early to appreciate the day’s soft morning light playing upon the fields and watch the wildlife awaken into the new day.

This will be a full day at the park to go on as many game drives as you wish. Or, you may want to set aside some relaxation time at your accommodation. Just discuss with your driver/guide how you’d like to plan your day.

As we safari through the park your guide will find the best spots to see the park’s many elephants and we’ll also be on the lookout for lion, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, and antelope.

Samburu is famous for several unusual and endangered species not seen in other parks. We’ll take care to spot special wildlife like Somali ostrich, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and Beisa oryx.

During our day we can also visit two nearby reserves Shaba and Buffalo Springs, with their much greener fields, and track the wildlife there.

Day 3
Samburu – Ol Pejeta (3 Hour Drive)

Let’s get up early to enjoy another game drive around the park before we head off to Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

It’s an easy drive, taking us to the cooler regions near Mt. Kenya and Laikipia.

Ol Pejeta is a versatile park featuring unusual sanctuaries along with a wonderful variety of animals. Besides being home to the big cats and the rare African wild dog, the park is also a sanctuary for rhinos and chimpanzees.

The Sweetwaters Sanctuary is the only spot in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees in their natural state. These orphaned and rescued chimps are carefully nurtured back to health and live out their lives in a large, natural enclosure.

The nearby refuge for rhinos is one of the largest in East Africa, harboring over one hundred of the great endangered creatures and absolutely worth a visit.

Day 4
Full Day at Ol Pejeta

The day is yours to do as you please – go on game drives or mix it up with perhaps a bicycle safari or some downtime at your accommodation.

While on our game drives we’ll take advantage of the conservancy’s diverse wildlife population and track for the big cats but also impala, giraffe, baboon, jackal, foxes, and hyena.

We can also enjoy other unique activities not found in the national parks – talk with your guide about going on a dramatic night safari. Or, leave the Jeep and hop on a bike for a cycling safari through the conservancy.

Day 5
Ol Pejeta – Masai Mara (1 Hour Flight)

It’s a great day for a flight safari, so let’s get up, perhaps take another game drive through the park and head out to the airstrip for our 10:30 am flight to the Masai Mara.

We’ll say goodbye to our guide as we board the plane for the one-hour flight to the great park. Most visitors only see the Masai Mara from ground level but you’ll get to take in the sight of its broad savannahs from the air.

You’ll land at a nearby airstrip where your second Adventure In The Wild Safaris guide will welcome you with an open-side 4 x 4 Land Cruiser. And we’re off to the park!

Before you, the park will present as immense green rolling hills, decorated with the signature acacia trees Africa is so famous for. This is a truly dense eco-system and you won’t have to wait long before spotting wildlife – large or small.

Sightings of lions and other big cats are quite common thanks to the many prides that inhabit the park. But you’ll also discover elephant, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelope, and so much more over our three-day span in the park.

Day 6
Full Day at Masai Mara

You’ll want to be up early to take in this great park and its immense displays of wild animals. Talk with your driver/guide about various areas of the park and what you can expect to see there.

You certainly should go down to the Mara River, site of the Great Migration from June through October. Here you’ll witness one of the most unbelievable displays of wildlife on the planet.

Hundreds, thousands… even tens of thousands of wildebeests, zebras, and gazelle pour into the park from the neighboring Serengeti on their yearly trek searching for sustenance in the form of food and water.

Waiting for this onslaught of grazers is a distinct coterie of predators. Crocodiles awaiting in the Mara River and then throughout the reserve, entire collections of big cats waiting for their prey. This is the natural world where each species behaves according to its pre-ordained genetic code – predator and prey.

If you’d like to watch this amazing drama from above, take advantage of our optional early morning hot air balloon safari. You’ll float over the park and the Great Migration, witnessing the world come alive with great fleets of wildebeest stretching out to the horizon. Simply breathtaking.

Another fun optional activity will add a cultural aspect to your time in the park. Visit a nearby Maasai village and get to meet these indigenous people close up. You’ll learn about their pastoral lifestyle, their culture and perhaps view their lively dance ceremony.

Day 7
Masai Mara – Amboseli (1 Hour Flight)

Perhaps you’d like to revisit some of your favorite viewing spots like the Mara River. Take advantage of our last morning for some final game drives through the great park.

We’ll enjoy lunch at our Mara accommodation, then it’s time to pack up and head back to the airstrip for the next leg of our journey, the 14:00 hrs. (2:00 pm) flight to Amboseli Park.

You’ll take leave of your second driver/guide as you climb into the plane for the scenic one-hour flight to Amboseli. On the way, you’ll catch sight of the towering flanks of Africa’s largest peak, Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Touching down at our third airstrip, you’ll feel like an experienced explorer as you pull up to your third guide and 4 x 4 Jeep. Pile in and head to your safari lodge or tented camp.

We’ll have time for a game drive before dinner and get a good introduction to the park. Looking toward the southern border, you can’t miss Mt. Kilimanjaro standing guard over Amboseli. It’s the perfect backdrop for the many free-ranging elephants you’ll see on your stay here.

Toward evening look to the great mountain as the clouds shrouding its snowy peak may lift, revealing an iconic vision of Africa.

Day 8
Full-Day at Amboseli

You’ve been on safari for over a week, so you’ve become used to rising with the birds and the wildlife emerging into the new day. Mt. Kilimanjaro is especially beautiful in the morning light and you can soak up the lovely sight while enjoying breakfast.

As at Ol Pejeta and the Masai Mara, you have a full day for game drives and any relaxing time you’d like to schedule in.

But now let’s explore this vibrant park, humming with all the big game like lions as well as giraffe, zebra, warthog, baboon, monkey, and hippos.

A drive up Observation Hill will reward us with beautiful views in all directions. Up here we can leave our 4 x 4 and stretch as we take in the great elephant families marching below and the park’s vast marshlands, spotting pelican, Egyptian goose, and the ostrich.

Day 9
Amboseli – Nairobi (45 Minute Flight)

It’s our last day on safari, so let’s treasure this final early game drive before breakfast. And perhaps a last glimpse at Kilimanjaro from the ground before we head off to the nearby airstrip for our 8:15 am flight back to Nairobi.

We’ll say goodbye to the park and our guide as we board the plane for our short trip back to Wilson Airport.
