Overview

The trek starts on the Sirimon Route, approaching Mount Kenya from the dry western side where hikers pass through forests of giant trees and rocky terrain. After summiting Point Lenana, the descent follows the lush and scenic Chogoria Route, winding through bamboo groves and highland rainforests.

This route offers a spectacular contrast in scenery and is considered to be one of the most picturesque trekking combinations on Mount Kenya. Wildlife is frequently seen along the way, making it a great option for those seeking both natural beauty and the thrill of big game sightings.

Transport

Round-trip transportation from your Nairobi city hotel to the mountain base is included for your convenience.

About Mount Kenya

Mount Kenya, Africa’s second-highest mountain after Kilimanjaro, dominates the central highlands of Kenya with its majestic, snow-capped peaks. Towering at 4,895 meters, Point Lenana is the primary trekking summit and the ultimate destination for hikers.

This rewarding ascent is ideal for trekkers looking for a moderately challenging experience. Though the final night ascent of Lenana can be tough, the overall trek is generally easier than climbs on Mount Kilimanjaro or Uganda’s Ruwenzori Mountains.

Why Choose This Route

  • Combines two of the most scenic and diverse routes: Sirimon and Chogoria

Day 2: Old Moses – Shipton Camp (4,200m)

After breakfast, follow the track uphill, forking right at the junction. After a short water break, continue crossing Ontulili River and contour through the moorland, crossing the Liki North River.
