Diani Beach is located on the Indian Ocean south coast of Kenya, 19 miles from the city of Mombasa in the county of Kwale.

Under British protection in the early 1800s, the Kenyan coast soon became popular as trade winds brought tourism and trade to the Diani Beach area. The first hotel was established in 1937.

By Road from Nairobi

If visitors want to travel by road from Nairobi, the drive will be a long, 320-mile journey that takes just under 9 hours.

By Road from Mombasa

Transfers from Mombasa to Diani require a 1-hour drive covering a distance of 20 miles.

By Train (SGR)

If visitors opt to travel by train, well known as the SGR, from Nairobi to Mombasa, it covers a distance of approximately 293 miles and takes around 6 hours. You will then be transferred to your hotel.

By Air

A flight from Nairobi to Diani covers a distance of approximately 282 miles and takes just over 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Weather & Climate

Diani Beach is a wonderful place to relax during the warmer months between December and March, with a quieter time to visit being between June and September. The weather is warm and the rainfall is minimal during this time. The humidity can be felt between the sunny months of October and November, with rainfall falling during April and May.

Avoiding Crowds

Consider visiting Diani Beach in the slightly out-of-peak season during the months of October and November or late May into early June.
