Ikweta Safari Camp

A small safari camp located in the Meru area in northern Kenya, Ikweta Safari Camp offers modest tented accommodation set among lush grounds, surrounded by wonderful wilderness. There is a reeded communal area that encloses a comfortable dining and sitting space, opening up to a small swimming pool and surrounded by lush grounds. Nature walks and bird watching opportunities are on offer from Ikweta Safari Camp, where service with a smile is the order of the day.

Location

Ikweta Safari Camp is located near the main entrance, Murera Gate, of the Meru National Park, situated in northern Kenya. The drive from Nairobi will take around six hours with a flight option available from Nairobi Wilson Airport, a 40-minute flight.

Rooms / Tents

12 canvas tents stand in wild surroundings, spacious inside and each containing a double bed or twin beds and a small writing table. The screeded floor is complemented by tall curtains that cover large windows set in the canvas walls. En-suite bathrooms contain a sink, toilet, and shower plus simple amenities and a small verandah gives guests the chance to sit in silence and absorb the surrounding nature.

Game Viewing / Activities

Game viewing in Meru National Park is wonderful with an abundance of wildlife that includes the Big Five, with a particular focus on the great numbers of buffalo. The Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, and herds of elephant are often spotted on game drives, along with kudu, gerenuk, and gazelle dotted across the savanna. With the basin of the Tana River forming part of the region, a beautiful landscape is enjoyed on game drives.

Game drives will be done by the guest’s ground handler and are usually conducted early morning and late afternoon. Guests can also enjoy nature walks and marvel at the magnificent birdlife that frequents the area.
