Lewa House

What a gem! The Lewa House sits high above the valleys and plains of the Lewa Conservancy, a charming house made of local materials, with cream walls supporting a beautiful thatched roof. The main building offers a space comprising an elegant dining area on one side with a cozy lounge, and colorful, scattered cushions inviting guests to stop and rest a while. There is a large, open fireplace and a wonderfully laid-back verandah leading off from this main area, providing more sitting space.

The tranquil swimming pool offers a chance to not only cool down but to gaze over the nearby water hole, the chance to spot animals coming to drink during the day. Dining is a treat at Lewa House, with options to dine indoors or out, meals created with local ingredients, and always an intimate experience. Bush breakfasts are popular here. Guests can pay a visit to the small gift shop located at Lewa House and there is access to WiFi in the main area of the house.

Location

The Lewa House is located a 15-minute drive from the Lewa Downs Airstrip, in the Lewa Conservancy. Guests traveling by road will travel five hours from Nairobi, entering through the Matunda Gate.

Rooms / Tents

The mix of accommodations at Lewa House comprises cottages and earth pods, both beautifully designed and decorated, each offering a unique touch of elegance to a warm and comforting stay.

The three Cottages are made of stone walls with rustic cedarwood furniture and mosquito netting over the beds. Rugs lay on the screeded floors, a sitting area and writing desk set to one side, and a large verandah ensures there is enough space for all occupants to relax in style. There are two adjoining en-suite rooms with a double and twin room in each, making it possible to accommodate four guests in each.

The four Earth Pods are individual en-suite cottages that are built to blend into the environment. They offer a comfortable stay in subtle decor and are truly peaceful. All rooms have a bathroom with a shower, vanity, and toilet, and some of the earth pods boast an outdoor shower, a wonderful way to connect with your natural surroundings. There are modern bathroom amenities for guests to enjoy during their stay.

Game Viewing / Activities

Guests can discover the beauty of this area with a helicopter ride over the Lewa Conservancy, a scenic view of the wilderness and wildlife, or embark on an open vehicle game drive or wilderness walk with a qualified safari guide.

There is even a safari ‘bumble’ for children hoping to discover little creatures and learn about the flora and fauna. Horseback or camel rides are available as well as cultural trips, archeological lectures and outings, and a visit to the pristine Ngare Ndare Forest nearby.
