Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary Tour

The Big Five Plus Chimpanzees — Explore one of Kenya’s best‑kept conservation havens with Adventure In The Wild Safaris.

Starting from/returning to your Nairobi area hotel, private residence or the airport. We’ll pick you up at 05:00 hrs for a full‑day safari in the comfort of a standard pop‑top safari jeep.

About Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a private wildlife reserve with so many wonderful features you won’t want to leave. Just a few hours from Nairobi you can find all of the Big Five—lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and rhino. Ol Pejeta also features one of the highest densities of predators in Kenya.

You’ll have very good chances to see lion, cheetah, hyena and the rare African wild dog. You’re guaranteed to see rhinos and chimpanzees in the famous sanctuaries inside this 365 sq.km (141 sq.mi) reserve.

Formerly a cattle ranch, Ol Pejeta now serves as protected space for many species including rare black and white rhinos and rescued chimpanzees. You may also spot unusual animals such as aardvark and bat‑eared fox.

Our Adventure Begins

Adventure In The Wild Safaris will pick you up at your hotel or location of choice at 05:00 hrs to begin the day. On the drive to Ol Pejeta we’ll pass traditional Kenyan coffee and tea plantations and, weather permitting, enjoy views of Mt. Kenya and its snow‑capped summit.

The drive is relatively short—about 3–4 hours. Ol Pejeta is the closest place to Nairobi where you can view all of Africa’s Big Five. The reserve is home to six prides of lions (close to 80 individuals) and about 30 cheetahs, plus many other species such as giraffe, vervet monkey, baboon, hippo, impala, gazelle, dik‑dik and zebra.

The Rhino Sanctuary

Ol Pejeta’s rhino sanctuary is a heroic conservation effort. It hosts around 100 black rhinos, the largest protected population in East Africa. The last two northern white rhinos in the world also live in this protected enclave (note: not visitable on a day trip).

The special enclosure is open to visitors twice daily at 08:30 and 16:00.

Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary

This is the only place in Kenya where you can see rescued chimpanzees. Orphaned and abandoned chimps are rehabilitated and introduced to large natural enclosures where they can live and play freely — a moving and unique wildlife experience.

More to See at Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta is home to many little‑seen species like tree hyrax, white‑tailed mongoose, black‑fronted duiker, mole rat, bushbuck, waterbuck and eland. All of this sits under the watchful presence of Mt. Kenya.

If you wish, your guide can arrange an optional visit to a local Maasai village to learn about Maasai culture, cattle raising, and artisanry (optional fee).

Your full one‑day tour of Ol Pejeta includes breakfast and lunch.
