The Retreat at Ngorongoro is ideally located between the nature-filled Lake Manyara National Park and the iconic Ngorongoro Crater, surrounded by even more picturesque beauty with Lake Eyasi nearby. The main area at the Retreat has a spacious dining room, tall ceilings finished with wooden beams, a fireplace standing against one wall, and individual wooden tables set up near a buffet station.

This theme is carried through to the lounge area where comfortable sofas are set up just in front of a neat, wooden bar. There is comfortable seating placed on the outside terrace where meals can be enjoyed as an alternative to eating in the main dining room.

There is a refreshing swimming pool where guests can unwind in between safari experiences and other activities including hitting the gym or simply bathing in the relaxing ambience of a massage. For something a little more active, guests can enjoy a bicycle ride to the local cultural village or take a refreshing stroll around the lodge gardens and farmland, keeping an eye out for the incredible birdlife in the vicinity. There is also a small business room and a gift shop presenting a selection of quality souvenirs.

Location

The Retreat at Ngorongoro is located in Tloma, near the town of Karatu. Guests have a choice of either driving from Arusha, a journey of approximately two hours and fifteen minutes, or they can choose to take a 30-minute flight from Arusha to Lake Manyara Airstrip. From here, they will be transferred to the Retreat, a 30-minute drive.

Rooms / Tents

The accommodation at The Retreat at Ngorongoro comprises 25 Luxury Cottages of which 21 are Twin Cottages and four of them are Double Cottages. There is also one two-bedroom Family Cottage which has a king bed in both bedrooms and a sofa bed for extra sleeping space.

The Twin Cottages comprise two queen-size beds in the room while the Double Cottages have a wonderful king-size bed. Four of the Twin Cottages can be inter-connected which is ideal for families.

Each cottage has a verandah with comfortable seating and inside, there is a writing desk and chair, a small sitting area, a safe to store valuables, and a cozy fireplace. There is a tea/coffee-making station, a closet to hang clothing, and access to both WiFi and room service during their stay. The bathrooms are all en-suite and have a toilet, vanity, and shower, as well as bathroom amenities to use during their stay.

Game Viewing / Activities

The famous Ngorongoro Crater is located 25 minutes away, where guests can spend a day on safari exploring the ‘Big Five’ and other incredible wildlife roaming the landscape. Guests can also embark on a walking safari in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enjoy outstanding bird watching.

Mountain bike rides and a visit to Lake Eyasi to visit the Hadzabe tribe or a boat ride on Lake Manyara are other fun activities to do in the region. Guests can visit a Maasai market during their stay.
