Discover Kidepo Valley National Park
Discover Kidepo Valley National Park, It’s possible that Kidepo Valley National Park is one of the most remote parks in Africa, so not everyone thinks it’s a must-see. You would be wrong to do that, though, because Kidepo has some of the most beautiful safari views in Uganda. Also, you can see animals here that you can’t see anywhere else in the country.
You should make the trip to this rough park just to see the cheetahs, aardwolves, bat-eared foxes, and caracals that live there. Out of the 75 kinds of mammals that live in Kidepo, elephants, buffalo, zebras, giraffes, jackals, leopards, wild dogs, and hyenas are some of the most interesting. Necrocodiles can also be seen in the Nile’s two rivers, the Kidepo and the Narus.
It could be because the park is out in the middle of nowhere or because not many tourists come here, but the animals don’t seem to mind when curious people come to visit. Animals like these can often be seen relaxing near the park’s lodgings. This means that you can spend a lot of time with the park’s animals, whether you’re on a game drive or just resting at your lodge.
Around 470 kinds of birds live in Kidepo. The goshawk, little bee-eater, sandpiper, and ostrich are just a few of them.
Nearby mountains, especially 2,750 m (9,020 ft) Mount Morungole, hold up this strange park’s rough, rolling grassland. There are red thorn acacia trees, desert dates, the famous sausage trees, and fan palms near the rivers that make the vast fields look nice. But the Borassus palm may be its most well-known tree species. Both animals and the people who live in these areas eat the fruit of this tree.
Some of these people are pastoralists, like the Maasai people in Kenya. They are called Karamojong. They have always been nomads with their big flocks of cattle, sheep, goats, and chicken, just like the Maasai.
The Karamojong now live in permanent towns, but they still follow the traditions and beliefs of their ancestors. People who come to the park can visit these villages to learn about how they live and what they believe in.
The Ik people, who live on Morungole Mountain and are a hunter-gatherer tribe, are the other native group in the area. The Ik are an endangered group because there are less than 10,000 of them left.
Where is Kidepo Valley National Park? The park is in the northeastern part of Uganda, in the rough hills between Sudan and Kenya. The park covers an area of 1,442 square miles (557 square miles), and most of it is semi-arid grassland.
Weather: The park is dry, and daytime temperatures can reach 40°C/104°F. At night, they drop to 17°C/63°F. Between September and February is the dry season. December through February are the driest months. For this national park, the rainy season lasts from April to August, but it’s not as bad as during other parks.
When to go: The park is open every day of the year.
When is the best time to go? From November to January, you might see some of the biggest groups of buffalo in Africa. Wildlife is also easier to see during the dry season because it is easier to find them near water sources.
You can get there by car. From Kampala, which is 520 km (320 mi) away, take an African Safari Kenya tour. The drive takes about 10 hours.
Things to see and do
Game Drives – There are dozens of kinds of mammals living in the area, and the park’s savannahs are great places to see them. Watch out for lions on these plains and even in the fig trees way up in the air. At the Kanangorok hot springs by the Kidepo River, you can see a lot of ostriches, which is a different species.
Nature Walks—A guided nature walk is a great way to get close to the park’s beautiful scenery. This walking tour also gives you great chances to take pictures in the wild.
Tours of culture – Native people from two groups live inside the park’s borders: the Karamojong and the Ik. You can plan a trip to their towns to meet the people and find out how they’ve lived in this harsh environment. Have fun spending time in these one-of-a-kind places and learning about their old cultures and ways of life.
