Mara Triangle Conservancy, The Mara Triangle is in the southwestern part of the well-known Masai Mara National Reserve, which is west of Nairobi, the main city. The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania is right next to the Mara Triangle.

Size

The Mara Triangle is 196 square miles big and makes up a third of the Masai Mara’s area.

History

When it was created in 1961, the Masai Mara covered 200 square miles, which included the Mara Triangle. In 1971, the Masai Mara was made a reserve. The non-profit Mara Conservancy works for the Trans-Mara County Council and looks after the Mara Triangle, which is split from the rest of the Masai Mara by the Mara River.

Fees and permits to get in

There are different fees to enter the Mara Triangle based on whether you are staying in the Masai Mara or just stopping by for the day. People who come to the Mara Triangle for the day will have to pay USD 80 each, while people who stay in the park will only have to pay USD 70 each.

When they are open

People can visit the Mara Triangle every day from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. After 6:30 p.m., no cars are allowed in the park.

The Mara Triangle is 161 miles away from Nairobi. It takes between five and a half and six hours to drive there. People can drive along the Uhuru Highway/A104 and enter through the Sekenani Gate.

By Air

From Nairobi Wilson Airport, guests can fly into any of these airstrips: Serena, Gama Mara Airfield, Mara North, Musiara, or Kichwa Tembo. It takes 45 to 60 minutes to fly.

Best Time to Visit

Climate and weather

The best time to visit the Mara Triangle is in the winter, from June to August, when it is cooler and drier. It can be cool in the early morning (around 55F), but this is the best time to go on safari because the grass is short because it hasn’t rained, and it’s not too hot during the day. In November and December, it rains for a short time, and the high temperature gets to about 80F.

Staying away from crowds

It’s best to visit the Mara Triangle outside of peak season, like in September and October or early May and June. These months offer great safaris without a lot of people. It’s better to avoid the migration season in July and August, when there are fewer cars on the open fields and more places to stay.
