Long rains (roughly March–May) and short rains (often November) deter some visitors—lodges discount and you share sightings with fewer vehicles. Roads can be muddy; some seasonal camps close.

  • Birding: Migrants and breeding plumage peak around these months.
  • Migration: The Mara is not the July–October migration circus—pair green season with parks strong on resident game.
