On this 4-day Fly and Drive Safari, you’ll get to know Kenya close up riding in your Land Cruiser Jeep, but also see its beauty from the air as you fly from Mombasa to Nairobi. What an exciting way to start your journey on an Air Kenya flight with the dawn breaking over the African savannah below! Then it’s on to Kenya’s most popular park, the incomparable Masai Mara Reserve. Followed by a visit to one of the country’s most versatile national parks, Lake Nakuru.
The Masai Mara National Reserve is a legend for its natural beauty, its abundance and variety of wildlife, and The Great Migration. During that season, the Mara is overcome with the invasion of millions of migrating animals streaming in over the Mara River in a yearly cycle of birth and renewal.
On our safari between the parks, we’ll travel through the stunning Rift Valley escarpment with its towering landscape and stops at lakes Naivasha and Elementaita to appreciate their scenic qualities. At Lake Nakuru National Park you’ll be treated to displays of beautiful waterfowl like herons and flamingoes. This special park is also home to a large rhino sanctuary where we will enjoy sightings of both black and white rhino.
This short safari will have an easy pace with much to see over its 4 days. If you have any special requests to customize your adventure, let’s talk and Adventure In The Wild Safaris will make it happen.

Day 2
FULL DAY – MASAI MARA
Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Get ready for lots of game drives and incredible animal viewing in this dense and dramatic park. Besides being home to Africa’s “Big Five” large mammals, the Masai Mara is the site of the largest movement of animals anywhere — the Great Migration.
During this migration season (July – October), it is estimated that over 2 million wildebeests, zebras, and smaller topi and eland flow into the park, crossing the Mara River. Waiting for them are crocodiles, lions, and other predators. It is a life-and-death struggle that plays out in a yearly cycle of dramatic proportions.
But even after the migration has completed, the park is awash in great troops of wildlife, so have your camera ready — there is so much to see. We’ll visit the Mara River and other sites in this world-famous park, tracking the hunters and grazers.
Learn about the nearby Maasai villagers with an optional visit to their homestead. Just ask your driver/guide to make arrangements.
A truly unforgettable experience is the optional hot air balloon ride at dawn. As you rise in the early morning light, you’ll witness the park coming alive with wildlife crossing the plains below. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Day 3
MASAI MARA – LAKE NAKURU
Distance: 285 km (Approx. 6–7 hrs)
There is nothing like the dawn with its golden light breaking over the Mara. We’ll take advantage of this magic hour for an early game drive, traversing the brightening fields, looking for wildlife emerging from the tall grass.
After breakfast, we’ll enjoy a final game drive, exiting the park and heading for Lake Nakuru.
Arriving in the mid-afternoon, we’ll get acquainted with the park, driving around the lake and taking in the world of birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, ostriches, storks, and pink flamingoes thrive here.
Lake Nakuru also hosts the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe, plus hippo, baboon, and monkey.
Day 4
LAKE NAKURU – NAIROBI
Distance: 160 km (Approx. 3 hrs)
We’ll be up with the birds because there’s so much to see in this active park. But there’s larger wildlife here as well. We’ll be tracking for lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, warthog, and antelope.
The park features a rhino sanctuary, hosting one of the country’s largest populations of black rhino. Indeed, there are so many rhinos here that we’re guaranteed sightings of both black and white rhinos.
And we may have time to discover the dense Acacia forest with sightings of impala and waterbuck. In all, Lake Nakuru is a place of delightful variety in its landscape and its varied wildlife.
