7 Days, 6 Nights: Rwanda’s Primate Connect Tour

Day 1 – Arrive Kigali & Genocide Memorial Visit

You will be met on arrival at Kigali International Airport and transferred to your hotel for check-in. Time allowing, visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and enjoy a short city tour.

Day 2 – Drive to Nyungwe National Park (220 kms / approx. 7 hrs)

After breakfast at 08:00 AM, leave Kigali and head south to Nyungwe National Park via Butare. En route, visit the Butare Museum and stop for lunch. Continue to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3 – Chimpanzee Trekking + Canopy Walk (Viewing time: 1hr)

Begin early with a 05:00 AM breakfast and head to the starting point for Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest.
After your incredible chimpanzee experience, return for lunch and then enjoy the Canopy Walk at 2:00 PM.
Admire views from a 50-meter-high suspension bridge above the rainforest with opportunities to spot other primates and birdlife.

Day 4 – Drive from Nyungwe to Gisenyi (287 kms / approx. 6 hrs)

After breakfast, depart for Gisenyi along the scenic shores of Lake Kivu. Stop for lunch in Kibuye town.
Enjoy a brief Gisenyi City Tour en route, then proceed to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5 – Boat Ride + Drive to Musanze (60 kms / approx. 1 hr)

After breakfast, enjoy a 1-hour boat ride on Lake Kivu and optional swimming. Following lunch, drive to Musanze,
Rwanda’s second-largest town nestled beneath the majestic Virunga Volcanoes. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 6 – Gorilla Tracking (Viewing time: 1hr)

After a 06:30 AM breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters at Kinigi for registration and briefing. Ensure you carry your passport for permit verification.
By 08:00 AM, begin your unforgettable trek into the forest to visit one of the habituated Gorilla families.
Trek duration varies from 30 minutes to 6 hours. After returning, enjoy lunch and a relaxing afternoon.

Optional: Visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional music, dance, and local interaction.

Day 7 – Return to Kigali & Departure (110 kms / approx. 2 hrs)

You will then be transferred to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.
