Highlights — What You’ll See
Wildebeests, birds, elephants & lions — this tour takes you across a spectacular cross-section of Kenya’s wildlife and landscapes. Visit the world-famous Mara River, crystal Rift Valley lakes, the plain below Mount Kilimanjaro, and the vast panoramas of Tsavo West.
Why This Tour Works
This is one of our most popular tours — six full days to explore Africa’s wildlife, landforms, sweeping vistas and endless skies. You’ll sample the incomparable Masai Mara, over 400 bird species at Lake Nakuru, immense processions of elephants at Amboseli, and lions, hippos and crocodiles at Tsavo West.
Park-by-Park Summary
Masai Mara Game Reserve — 2 days
Unlimited game-viewing drives across tree-studded savannahs, home to a multitude of wild animal species and colorful Maasai tribespeople. Expect immersive wildlife action and the chance to visit the Mara River.
Lake Nakuru National Park — 1 day
Famous for bird watching and its rhino sanctuary, set beneath the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Please note that flamingo numbers have been declining due to progressive natural factors, but the park remains stunning — towering rocky escarpments, acacia forests, waterfalls, wooded hills and euphorbia trees. The few flamingos are accompanied by pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks, herons and eagles — a bountiful, busy and colorful scene.
Amboseli National Park — 1 day
Renowned for magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Amboseli’s swamps below Observation Hill attract large herds of elephants, buffalo, hippo and an array of waterfowl such as pelicans and Egyptian geese. You’ll also glimpse African homesteads and local cultures.
Tsavo West National Park — 1 day
Tsavo West offers scenic hills and valleys, game drives across Africa’s limitless wild spaces, and natural wonders such as Mzima Springs where you can spot crocodiles, hippos and exotic fish. Look out for lava flows and recent volcanic features that shape this dramatic landscape.
Extras & Optional Activities
Masai village visit at Masai Mara (arrange with your driver guide) — $25 per person to the village chief (optional).

Route at a Glance
6 Days Nairobi → Masai Mara → Lake Nakuru → Amboseli → Tsavo West → Mombasa & Kenya Coast.
Daily Itinerary
Day 1 — Nairobi → Masai Mara Game Reserve
0500 hrs: Early departure (5:00 am) from your hotel or preferred location bound for the Masai Mara. Arrive in time for a short introductory game drive before lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive — your first immersion in what is perhaps the most famous game park in the world.
Day 2 — Full Day in the Masai Mara
The concentration of large mammals here is superb, likely unrivaled anywhere. As you explore the rolling plains, watch for the renowned Big Five. During the Great Migration (July–October), witness millions of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle crossing the Mara River in an epic display of survival.
We’ll visit the river to view this spectacle, plus hippos and crocodiles — and possibly predators like lions, leopards, and cheetahs on the hunt.
Optional: Early morning hot air balloon safari for a breathtaking aerial view of wildlife streaming across the plains; and/or a cultural visit to a local Maasai village to learn first-hand about their traditions. Ask your guide to arrange either experience.
Day 3 — Masai Mara → Lake Nakuru
Depart early for Lake Nakuru with scenic pauses along the way. The park is stunning — great rocky escarpments, acacia forests, waterfalls, wooded hills, and euphorbia trees ring the alkaline lake.
Please note: Due to progressive natural factors, flamingo numbers have been reducing. The park, however, remains one of Kenya’s finest. You may still see a fringe of flamingos accompanied by rich birdlife — pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks, herons, and eagles — creating a colorful, bustling scene.
Wildlife highlights include rare Rothschild’s giraffe, zebra, hippo, waterbuck, hyena, monkeys, and baboons. We’ll also visit the rhino sanctuary, home to one of Kenya’s largest populations of endangered black and white rhino. Time permitting, a woodland drive could reveal the elusive African rock python.
Day 4 — Lake Nakuru → Amboseli
Head east toward Amboseli, with stops to break the journey and enjoy Great Rift Valley vistas. Let Africa’s tallest mountain, Mt. Kilimanjaro, guide you to the park — its snowcapped mass is an ever-present backdrop here in the “Land of the Giants,” famed for great elephant herds with impressive tusks.
Visit Observation Hill for sweeping views over marshes and springs that attract elephant, buffalo, hippo, pelican, and other waterfowl.
Day 5 — Amboseli → Tsavo West
A short drive brings us to Tsavo West with ample daylight to explore. Expect surprising contrasts — recent lava flows, wild baobabs, and lush oases hidden within sprawling savannahs.
Like the Mara, the park hosts the Big Five. Note the distinctive Tsavo male lions, often lacking manes. Other sightings may include elephants, rhino, Maasai giraffe, bushbabies, and hartebeest.
We’ll visit the life-giving waters of Mzima Springs where gazelle, zebra, monkeys, hippos, and crocodiles gather — with exotic fish visible in the crystal pools.
This is our final safari evening. Tomorrow brings a last game drive en route to the coast.
Day 6 — Tsavo West → Mombasa & Kenya Coast
Enjoy a final game drive toward Mtito-Andei station. You’ll travel through Tsavo West and Tsavo East with more chances for sightings before boarding the Madaraka Express high-speed train to Mombasa and the coast. Your driver/guide assists with tickets and boarding.
