Audio Introduction

Why Ol Pejeta, Naivasha & Masai Mara?

Ol Pejeta Wildlife Sanctuary is special. Nowhere else in Kenya can you see chimpanzees in their native habitat. This reserve also harbors the largest number of black rhinos in East Africa in specially protected game corridors. But you’ll also find all the Big Five here – at least six prides of lions populate the sanctuary, with healthy numbers of leopards and cheetahs as well.

From the central highlands of Kenya, we’ll journey through the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha for several unusual safaris. We’ll sail across the lake looking for hippos, pelicans, kingfishers and more. Nearby Crescent Island Game Sanctuary gives us an opportunity to stretch our legs on a guided walking safari viewing small game. And, an optional bicycle ride to Hell’s Gate National Park will bring us up close to grazing antelope, buffalo, zebra, and giraffe.

We’ll next set out for one of the grandest wildlife parks in the world, the vast plains and rolling hills of Masai Mara National Reserve. This amazing park boasts the highest density of wildlife in the region, so we’ll be tracking all the big game with an emphasis on lions. You’ll have opportunities to meet the local Maasai people and even take a hot air balloon safari over the park!

Arrive at Lake Naivasha for an afternoon boat safari among hippos and abundant birdlife. Keep an eye out for fish eagles, pelicans and kingfishers. Nearby plains may reveal antelope, zebra, buffalo, eland and impala along the lakeshore.

If time allows, take a short transfer for a guided walking safari on Crescent Island Game Sanctuary, meeting gentle grazers up close in a tranquil setting.

Day 3 — Lake Naivasha → Masai Mara

Distance: 240 km
Drive Time: ~5 hrs

After breakfast, depart for the world‑famous Masai Mara National Reserve. Optional activity in Naivasha en route: visit Hell’s Gate National Park for cycling or hiking (additional USD 35 per person).

In the migration season (approximately July–October), witness waves of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle crossing into the reserve, often at the Mara River where hippos and crocodiles reside. A picnic by the river places you close to the action when conditions allow.

Optional cultural visit to a Maasai village to learn about traditions and lifestyle. For an unforgettable perspective, consider a pre‑dawn hot air balloon flight over the Mara (advance booking recommended; additional cost).

You may opt (at extra cost) to route via Naivasha for lunch/excursions, or continue toward Nairobi with the possibility of a Kiambethu Tea Farm tour (includes three‑course buffet lunch, additional cost). Later, transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight.
