History

Driven by the need to protect their ancestral land, the Maasai community came together to form the Mara North Conservancy. Over 800 Maasai warriors contributed to its success, and the conservancy was officially established in 2009. It represents a collaborative effort between local communities and safari accommodation providers, creating a model of sustainable tourism and land stewardship.

The Mara North Conservancy enjoys a moderate climate. There are two distinct rainy seasons: short rains in November and the main rainy season from March to early May. The cooler, dry winter months of June through August are considered peak safari season, with average daytime temperatures around 75°F (24°C).

Avoiding Crowds

From July to September, the conservancy sees the highest number of visitors, many drawn by the opportunity to witness the Great Migration. For a quieter safari experience, consider visiting just before the short rains in October or during January and February—an excellent time for birdwatchers, as over 500 bird species can be spotted in the region.

Value for Money

Accommodation in the Mara North Conservancy ranges from USD 350 to USD 1,500 per person sharing, per night. Budget-conscious travelers can find excellent value in larger lodges, while those seeking an exclusive experience can enjoy more intimate settings at places like Royal Mara Safari Lodge (8 rooms) or Kandili Camp (11 luxury tents). Both options offer an immersive and luxurious stay in this pristine wildlife area.
