Porini Rhino Camp
Tucked away in a serene corner of Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Porini Rhino Camp is a small and intimate eco-camp designed to provide simple yet comfortable accommodations in one of Kenya’s most important conservation areas. Known for housing the country’s largest population of black rhinos, this exclusive camp allows guests a close connection to nature while emphasizing sustainability and ecological integrity.
Situated along the banks of a seasonal river, the camp is secluded and peaceful, with only seven luxury tents powered entirely by solar energy. This environmentally conscious approach not only reduces the camp’s carbon footprint but enhances the immersive experience in nature. The main tent at Porini Rhino Camp features a welcoming canvas dining area and a cozy lounge section where guests can relax with a drink in hand.
Since stays at the camp are on an all-inclusive basis, guests can enjoy a sundowner during their evening game drives, capturing the beautiful hues of the Laikipia skies as the sun sets behind the savannah. In front of the camp, the seasonal river creates an ideal viewing opportunity, with a hide strategically placed to allow for close-up wildlife observation without disturbing the animals.
Location
Porini Rhino Camp is set within the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, one of the most celebrated private wildlife reserves in Kenya. Nestled between the majestic Aberdare Mountains and the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya, the camp lies in the heart of the Laikipia region. The closest air access is via Nanyuki Airstrip, which is approximately 30 minutes by flight from Wilson Airport in Nairobi. From the airstrip, it’s a scenic 21-mile drive to the camp. For those traveling by road, the journey from Nairobi takes around two hours, offering guests the chance to enjoy the changing landscape as they approach the conservancy.
Rooms / Tents
With only seven eco-friendly luxury tents, Porini Rhino Camp offers an exclusive and private retreat into the wilderness. Each tent features a veranda for guests to relax and soak in the natural surroundings in complete tranquility. Tents can be configured as Twin or Double, and there is a Family Tent available, which includes a central lounge space separating two en-suite bedrooms, ideal for groups or families traveling together.
The design of each tent is tastefully simple, combining classic safari styling with thoughtful comforts. Interiors include a wardrobe, writing desk, and chair, while neutral tones in the bedding are accented by colorful cushions and rugs that contrast beautifully with the green canvas walls. The en-suite bathrooms are practical and well-equipped, offering everything needed for a comfortable stay while remaining in harmony with the camp’s low-impact ethos.
