Journey Highlights
Samburu National Reserve
Your first stop at the Samburu National Reserve presents unusual species like Grevy’s Zebra and the reticulated giraffe. There’s also plenty of big game here such as lion, leopard, cheetah and buffalo. The reserve is home to the Samburu people whose villages dot the landscape.
Aberdare National Park (Tree Hotel Stay)
Perhaps one of the most unique parks and certainly your most unique lodging is at your next stop, Aberdare National Park. Amidst upcountry rainforest and waterfalls, you’ll be staying at a tree hotel! From your balcony you’ll look out on the park’s wildlife of black rhino, elephant, Cape buffalo, Bongo antelope and much more.
Lake Nakuru National Park (via Thompson’s Falls)
Then it’s off to Lake Nakuru National Park and along the way there you’ll pass the scenic drama of 74 m high Thompson’s Falls.
Due to some progressive natural factors like increasing water levels, the flamingo numbers at Lake Nakuru National Park have been reducing, but the park itself remains stunning – one of Kenya’s finest. Great rocky escarpments tower over acacia forest, waterfalls, wooded hills and euphorbia trees dot the lake.
The few quantity of flamingos is accompanied by other birdlife – pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, ostriches, storks as well as herons and eagles. The scene here is bountiful, busy and full of color.
But that’s only the beginning of what this special park has to offer because the wildlife viewing here is easy and accessible. Lake Nakuru is known for hosting some endangered but beautiful species. You’re sure to see rare Rothschild’s Giraffe along with white rhino, especially along the lakeshore.
The park is also sanctuary to one of Kenya’s largest populations of black rhino. So get your camera ready!
Lake Naivasha & Crescent Island
It’s a short drive to Lake Naivasha and a boat safari over the beautiful fresh water lake. Take in hippo, multitudes of birdlife and small game on the shore. Then at nearby Crescent Island, you’ll be treated to a guided walking safari. Here’s a story you can take back home as you stroll past grazing zebra, impala, giraffe and other small game.
Masai Mara Game Reserve
The climax to your busy week of immersive scenery and wildlife is the world-famous Masai Mara. Known for its incredible diversity of game, including the Big Five, the Mara is Africa’s richest eco-system. The stunning acacia highlighted savannah will greet you first and sightings of the park’s rich game will soon follow. You’ll spend 2 nights here soaking up the best Africa has to offer.
There will also be an opportunity to visit a Masai village, meet the Maasai people and learn about their unique history and culture. What a perfect way to end the perfect week.
